Cannabis For Medical Purposes
Cannabis has been farmed for a long time due to its industrial and medicinal benefits attributed to it since ancient times.
CBD is an important component of the hemp (cannabis) plant, and its use has even led to the development and patenting of medicines.
The hemp plant contains more than 80 different chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. The most well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is known for its psychoactive properties, while cannabidiol (CBD) is the second most common compound and is non-psychoactive.
In the Middle Ages, cannabis was used for pain, epilepsy, nausea, and vomiting, and in Western medicine, it was used as a pain reliever. (Source here.)
CBD as a Pain Reliever
Based on the current research and studies, the question of whether CBD oil alleviates pain has been the subject of ongoing research, and several promising results have been obtained.
Below, we provide information about a study that concluded in July 2016. The original article can be read in its original language. Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4851925/
Nearly 50 million (22.2%) adults aged 18 and above in the United States were diagnosed with arthritis between 2007 and 2009, mainly osteoarthritis and the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis.
Based on current findings, it is predicted that this number will rise to 67 million by 2030 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2010). The most effective treatment for rheumatoid arthritis is an injectable fusion protein, which can bring improvement but also suppresses the body’s immune reactions.
Studies have observed whether cannabidiol (CBD) affects joint inflammation.
A study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of transdermal CBD in the context of inflammation and pain, evaluating potential harmful effects in a rodent knee joint model. (Source here.) CBD gels were applied for four consecutive days (0.6, 3.1, 6.2, or 62.3 mg/day) after inducing joint inflammation and only positive results were seen.
Currently, numerous studies like the ones mentioned above are being conducted regarding CBD oil, examining their possible effects.
