In this episode, Jake discusses how eating healthy is actually way easier than eating unhealthy (like… by far!).
Eating healthy might seem overwhelming at first, but here’s the surprising truth: it’s actually easier than eating unhealthy. Forget the myths that eating well is time-consuming or complicated—once you see how simple it can be, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner.
Why Eating Healthy Feels Hard
Most people assume cooking healthy meals means hours in the kitchen or complex recipes. One of my clients came to me frustrated, saying she spent her entire weekend meal prepping lunches and hours every night cooking dinner for her family. Despite all that effort, she wasn’t losing weight or feeling better. Why? Her “healthy” meals were loaded with processed ingredients like sugary sauces, heavy oils, and refined carbs.
Here’s the reality: healthy eating doesn’t have to involve cooking at all. And even if you do cook, it’s far easier than you think.
The 7-Second Meal
Let me show you just how simple healthy eating can be.
This morning, I went to Trader Joe’s and grabbed a few ingredients: multicolored carrots, English cucumbers, spicy meats, blackberries, Brie, and honey. I threw them together, and in 7 seconds, I had a full meal ready to eat. No cooking. No stress. Just whole, fresh foods that taste incredible.
Example ingredients for an easy, no-cook meal:
- Fresh veggies like carrots or cucumbers
- A protein like smoked salmon or spicy cured meats
- Cheese (Brie or goat cheese work great)
- A handful of fruit
- A drizzle of honey or olive oil for flavor
Doesn’t that sound easier than spending 30 minutes making a processed meal that leaves you feeling sluggish?
Simplify Your Cooking
If you enjoy cooking, you can still make it easier and healthier. Let’s compare:
Hamburger Helper:
- Brown ground beef
- Add a packet of processed seasoning
- Cook pasta
- Combine with milk, butter, and sauce packet
Time: ~30 minutes
Healthy Alternative:
- Shape ground beef into patties and pan-sear with salt and pepper
- Roast a potato in the oven
- Sauté carrots with a little honey
Time: ~30 minutes, but way healthier and just as simple
The takeaway? Healthy meals don’t need extra steps. Often, they involve fewer ingredients and less effort than their processed counterparts.
Retrain Your Taste Buds
If raw carrots or simple veggies don’t appeal to you right now, don’t worry. Processed foods are designed to hijack your taste buds, making real foods seem bland at first. But here’s the good news: the more whole foods you eat, the more your brain and body will start craving them. You’ll eventually notice processed foods taste overly salty, sugary, or artificial.
Personally, after losing my sense of taste and smell for a while, I couldn’t go back to fast food once they returned. The taste of burnt oils and artificial flavors became unbearable. Fresh foods, on the other hand, felt alive and flavorful.
A Garlic-Fueled Health Hack
Want to supercharge your health? Add a clove of fresh garlic to your meal. It’s a bit spicy when raw, but the compound allicin in garlic triggers your immune system, helping fight off sickness and inflammation. Chewing raw garlic at the end of a meal is a simple habit that can make a big difference.
Pro tip: If you’re worried about garlic breath, pair it with fresh parsley or a piece of bread to neutralize the smell. And honestly, smelling like garlic is a small price to pay for better health.
Why Healthy Eating is Truly Easier
Think about the time it takes to grab fast food:
- Drive to the restaurant
- Sit in traffic
- Wait in line or at the drive-thru
- Pay and wait for your order
Compare that to opening your fridge, grabbing a carrot, cucumber, or piece of cheese, and calling it lunch. One takes seconds; the other wastes time, money, and energy.
Even if you want something more substantial, healthy meals like grilled salmon, a simple salad, or roasted veggies are quicker and easier than you think. You don’t need complicated recipes or hours of prep.
Take the Challenge
I challenge you to try eating healthy for just one day. Skip the meal prep, skip the processed foods, and keep it simple:
- Grab some fresh veggies, fruit, and protein
- Don’t overthink it—just eat whole foods
You’ll feel lighter, more energized, and wonder why you ever made it complicated.
Eating healthy really is easier than eating unhealthy. Whether you’re tossing together a no-cook plate of veggies and protein or simplifying your cooked meals, the time, effort, and results speak for themselves. If you’re ready to start simplifying your health, let’s do it together.
