What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling that is completely normal – in fact, it’s healthy to feel a little anxious sometimes. A small amount of anxiety can actually increase performance and help us concentrate better. In certain situations, anxiety and stress are expected reactions from us.
However, when anxiety becomes constant, it can become a very serious problem. Anxiety not only affects our mental state but also comes with physical symptoms.
Signs of Anxiety
- Constant feeling of fear
- Restlessness, excessive sensitivity
- Nausea and dizziness
- Headaches and stomachaches
- Difficulty concentrating
- Fatigue
- Muscle tension, stiffness
- Insomnia, sleep disturbances
- Rapid heartbeat
- Shortness of breath
The severity of the symptoms may depend on how long the illness has been present.
Causes of Anxiety
The causes of anxiety are not fully understood – anxiety has significant evolutionary background as tensed muscles and rapid heartbeat can be work in your favor during fight or flight situations.
However, the causes of constant anxiety are not as clear-cut. It can be caused by the malfunctioning of the amygdala or can arise as a consequence of alcoholism.
Currently, two main causes of anxiety are distinguished:
- Primary neurotic development, where the cause of the behavioral disorder is sought in the child’s past.
- Secondary neurotic development, which occurs as a result of a sudden trauma.
Based on these, several types of anxiety disorders can be identified.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder is characterized by persistent and excessive worry. It can be associated with underlying depression, as well as side effects of medications or withdrawal symptoms.
GAD is diagnosed when the anxiety has been present for several months and the individual worries about things that they previously did not.
Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder
Panic disorder involves the sudden onset of intense anxiety known as panic attacks. The symptoms of a panic attack occur rapidly and reach their peak within about 10 minutes.
Agoraphobia, OCD, and PTSD
Other specific types of anxiety disorders include agoraphobia (fear of large spaces), often accompanied by panic attacks. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves persistent anxiety caused by intrusive thoughts and the need to perform certain repetitive actions.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can also lead to panic attacks, often triggered by sudden negative memories from the past, such as war or death.
Research on the Effects of CBD on Anxiety
According to current medical protocols, anxiety disorders can be alleviated or eliminated through therapy, medication, and some alternative medicine practices.
Research is ongoing to investigate the potential effects of CBD on anxiety.
The endocannabinoid system, an important cell signaling system, is indirectly influenced by CBD, as it can interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors.
A study published in 2015 examined the potential effects of CBD on anxiety in different groups:
- A larger case study focused on changes in sleep quality.
- Another study compared the safety of CBD and THC.
- A third study investigated the possible mood-enhancing effects of CBD.
Overcoming Anxiety Alone is Not Always Successful
When it comes to anxiety disorders, many people believe that they can overcome them through self-care, and lifestyle changes. However, in the majority of cases, this approach is not effective, and it is much more beneficial to seek the help of a professional.
How USA Medical CBD Helps with Anxiety
Science-Backed CBD
At USA Medical CBD, we are committed to providing science-backed products that are specifically formulated to potentially help with anxiety. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in hemp plants. Extensive research has been conducted to explore the potential benefits of CBD for anxiety disorders.
Certified Organic and Third-Party Tested
Our CBD products are sourced from organically grown hemp plants. We prioritize quality and safety by ensuring that our products are free from pesticides, herbicides, and other harmful chemicals.
Additionally, our products undergo rigorous third-party testing to guarantee potency, purity, and consistency.
Potential Mechanisms of Action
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body, which plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes, including mood and stress response. CBD may influence the ECS by indirectly interacting with CB1 and CB2 receptors, thereby potentially modulating anxiety-related processes.
Promising Research Findings
Emerging research suggests that CBD may have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects. Several studies have reported positive outcomes when CBD is used as a potential treatment for various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and panic disorder.
However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and therapeutic potential of CBD for anxiety.
At USA Medical CBD, we strive to offer high-quality CBD products that undergo rigorous testing and are supported by scientific research.
