Allergies are different from bacteria and other pathogens because allergens are inherently harmless. However, our immune system perceives them as harmful invaders.

How Do Allergies Develop?

The immune system’s role is to protect our health by fighting against pathogens. It does so by attacking anything it considers a potential threat to the body.

Allergies occur when the immune system reacts to something that is normally harmless.

By labeling allergens, which are substances that trigger allergies (such as animal fur, certain foods, or pollen), as harmful, the immune system initiates a defense response. This leads to the release of histamine and other chemicals in the body, causing allergic symptoms.

Allergic Symptoms and Reactions

While hay fever may cause mild symptoms such as a runny nose, in some cases, the symptoms can be much more severe and affect the entire body.

Anaphylaxis is the most severe allergic reaction, which can cause severe skin symptoms, serious breathing problems and very low blood pressure.

Symptoms and Treatment of Allergies

Allergic symptoms vary depending on the type and severity of the allergy. The most common reactions include:

  • Sneezing and itchy or stuffy nose (hay fever)
  • Itchy, red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • Wheezing, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, and coughing
  • Itchy, red rashes (hives)
  • Swollen lips, tongue, eyes, or face
  • Stomach pain, discomfort, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Dry, red, and cracked skin

The best way to avoid allergies is to avoid what triggers the reaction. If that’s not possible, allergy treatment often involves using antihistamine medications based on the severity of the allergy.

Many people opt for immunotherapy, where the body is gradually accustomed to the allergen through injections or tablets.

Can CBD Oil Help with Allergies?

Due to the growing popularity of CBD, more scientific research is being conducted to explore its uses. This includes investigating the application of CBD oil for allergies.

Understanding CBD: Important Information about CBD Oil

CBD oil contains plant oils extracted from the Cannabis Sativa plant, specifically from CBD (cannabidiol).

Studies on the Application of CBD Oil for Allergies

Research on the effects of CBD on allergies has all been very positive, showing signs of using CBD to combat allergies.

  • A study published in 2020 investigated whether topically applied CBD can help with rashes and other inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema.
  • A report published in 2018 examined whether CBD has anti-inflammatory effects in the case of contact dermatitis.

Currently, numerous studies like the ones mentioned above are being conducted worldwide regarding CBD and CBD oil, exploring their potential effects.
