The Miskolc Animal Rescue Foundation
Introduction
The foundation built its shelter through community cooperation and now cares for more than 300 dogs and cats. Its work has earned local recognition, including the Nivo Award in 2004, the Miskolc Diamonds Award in 2008, and Organization of the Year in 2016 from MATSZ.
In 2016, more than 12,000 people supported the shelter through its tax donation program. After electronic tax returns were introduced in 2017, the organization saw a drop in revenue. The foundation does not run national media advertising campaigns. Supporters often get involved through volunteering, events, outreach programs, or adoption.
Their main responsibilities include:
- Operating an animal shelter that takes in stray and homeless animals, provides healthcare, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and care until they find new homes.
- Running an animal rescue that cares for injured stray animals in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen County and nearby areas.
- Promoting better animal care through school programs and community events.
Here’s why MASA matters to so many people:
They care for 300 dogs and cats every day. Ten employees and 10–20 regular volunteers help with daily animal care. Since they began, they’ve helped 15,000 dogs find new homes. They’re expanding with new programs to improve animal welfare.
